RE: LP Regulator Freezing

I don't know anything about this myself but found at http://www.aleutianpropane.com/st.htm "The presence of moisture in the fuel may cause the regulator to freeze up. The following suggestions may help you prevent regulator freeze-ups and allow moisture to pass harmlessly through the regulator. Always keep the cylinder (or container) valve closed and POL plug in place when not in use to prevent moisture from collecting inside the container. If you suspect the presence of moisture, your propane dealer can inject methyl alcohol into your cylinder (or container) before filling." A number of web sites also said that freeze-ups can usually be fixed by using a 2-stage regulator.

RE: Roof vent - hinge replacement?

Lots of screws, about 15-20.There are 28 screw holes, but they may or may not all be used. Best to use a cordless drill with them. And I spent enough time cleaning the sealant off the old screws that it may have been wiser to just use new ones.

RE: Chevy Volt - towable? How about AC & Heat?

I like the phrase "Electric drive delivers the equivalent of 150 hp". There must be some serious doublespeak here.

RE: About ready to purchase a Four Winds 24t

We seriously looked at one of these, attracted by the roominess and openness of the interior. We gave up on it after looking more closely, mainly due to the almost total absence of outside storage and single battery, with no space provided for a 2nd battery.

RE: There's more to a VuQube 1000 than meets the eye !!!

What's stopping us? The marketing practices of DirecTV and DISH networks. They keep advertising $29 a month service, but to get anything worth watching, you have to add another $10 to $15 for an upgraded package. Another $10 for HD. $5 if you don't have a phone line for each reciever. $5 for each additional receiver. By the time I got set-up with satisfactory service, I'd be well over double their advertised cost. To me, that's a classic Bait 'n Switch marketing scheme.Well if it's not technically bait and switch I'll argue that it's deceptive, and it's also normal. I got a mailer from Comcast advertising 19.95*/month TV service. After unfolding 2 pages to find the '*', it was buried in the middle of some very fine print that after 3 months it goes up to $55/month. One could also rant about cell phone and airline rates, which also seem to end up being about double what the teaser ad says.

RE: Why do tires have a reduced capacity whe used as duals?

...this whole theory doesn't make sense to me. If both are at max PSI (just as a single would be), why would the load rating be any the less just because one tire is "offloaded"It makes perfect sense to me. The explanation is stating that with duals, temporary overloads are a normal, expected occurrence. To safely accommodate this, the load rating has been reduced to provide some margin to handle the expected situation.

RE: Roof vent - hinge replacement?

Are you saying there are no screws fastening the vent to the roof?Oops, didn't mean to say that. There are probably screws under the top layer of lap sealant. Mine had 1/4 inch hex heads and after scraping the sealant away I could get a nutdriver on them with no problem.

RE: Roof vent - hinge replacement?

I'm in the process of pulling and replacing 2 roof vents. The standard attachment is either putty tape (fiberglass or aluminum roof) or butyl tape (rubber roof) between the vent flange and roof, and lap sealant on the top of the flange. The warmer the sealant is, the easier it is to remove. I used a hair dryer to heat the sealant, and a paint scraper to carefully remove it. The really hard part was the butyl tape under the vent flange. That stuff sticks like a son-of-a-gun. One tip I read, too late for me, was to heat the scraper blade. The fantastic fan, on the other hand, uses a foam gasket between the vent flange and roof, making it way easier to remove. Why do standard vents do it one way, and Fantastic the other? Is there any reason the gasket approach couldn't be used with the standard vents instead of the butyl tape?

RE: What is "low Frequency"

If you were plugged into shore power I'd take the position that something else happened that the device incorrectly diagnosed as low frequency. The frequency on the public power grid will never be off by even a tenth of a Hz.

RE: Thought the yamaha EF4500ise was bigl

Is this the first 240V inverter generator? AFAIK, the Honda eu6500is was the first 240 volt consumer inverter generator. It has two 120 volt inverters and a switch to operate them is series or parallel.

RE: Anode small water seeping?

I could never get mine to seal with tape. Using joint compound did the trick. Others do just fine with the tape. Maybe there are small differences in the threads that make the difference.

RE: Is This Deal Too Good To Be True? (Prosine 2.0)

Buyer beware. If that vendor is gone within a year, you're SOL. Reminds me of an old saying about too good to be true. Before I returned mine I was in contact with Xantrex and learned that the 1-year warranty is through Xantrex. But, it has to be a legitimate retail purchase from a business, with a genuine receipt. If the purchase is from an individual, the Xantrex warranty is at risk. I was going to exchange mine with Xantrex but they didn't have any exchange units in stock. Are you aware of the 25% rebate if you link to eBay via Live Search?

RE: Is This Deal Too Good To Be True? (Prosine 2.0)

I bought one recently from a different eBay vendor. I'm not going to install it for a while, but I set it up and thoroughly bench tested it right away, and found a problem with its AC operation. The vendor was totally cooperative about exchanging it for another unit, which has checked out OK. My loss was a bunch of time and the cost of the return shipping, but if it continues to work it's still a screaming deal. The vendor said that problems with the rebuilt units are fairly rare.

RE: WFCO converter

I bought a WFCO converter about 6 months ago (installed in a new RV) and I'm hugely disappointed with it. It has never once gone into boost mode. It's kind of frustrating to have the battery down 50 AH and have it charging at a rate of only 5 amps. The totally-dumb Magnetek in my old rig did better than this. One can speculate that the 6-foot wire from the converter to the battery is too small and causing the problem. Maybe, maybe not. But what's not debatable is that if there was a way provided to select the charge mode I could get my battery topped off in less than a day. The WFCO is going to get replaced over the winter. In addition to the health of the battery, it's about getting a decent charge rate when running the generator.

RE: Trace/Xantrex Inverter Woes

It is just a standard phone cable, at least for the Prosine 2000. This is from the manual... This is correct, but this isn't a Prosine thread. There's no RC6 manual online, but the RC5 manual, for instance, says "the cable's phone jack connectors must be flipped in orientation from each other".

RE: Can anyone recommend a good pure sine inverter/charger?

I was in this exact situation and bought a Prosine 2.0 (not installed yet). I don't need the 100 amp charger and I don't need a 2,000 watt inverter. What swayed me was the superior charger (this one actually does constant-current), built-in transfer relay, AC line checking, and remote panel that displays the AC and DC power information. The downside is horrible inverter efficiency if the AC load is under 100 watts, and it's a pretty big box to find a place for in a small rig. The specs say the peak inverter efficiency is at 500 watts, and it's near the peak from 250 to 1,000 watts.

RE: Concern about Roadmaster bracket design for 09 FIT

Talked to the design engineer at Roadmaster who convinced me the Roadmaster bracket design for the 2009 Fit makes sense. Could you summarize what makes sense about it? I'm thinking of getting a Fit and have the same concern you did.
